Sir Woman Memphis Concert reviews
Great Show
Deftones, who rocked the house, I can see how they made their career on their live performances. While the performance was awesome, I'm not a huge fan of the genre so all the songs started sounding the same after a while. They were still very entertaining and had a great mix and stage presence.
Sir Woman was the reason I bought the tix and they were worth it. That was an incredible show, at an incredible venue, with an amazing vibe throughout, and of course everyone was 14 years younger. However, the band as well as their music have matured well - losing some of the angry edge and adding more atmospheric musicality. When Boyd hit his wheelhouse his voice sounded just as good as ever and the crowd was definitely into the performance. I saw them at Avalon in Boston back in 2001 - very soon after the 9/11 nightmare.
We missed the Bots, saw the last few songs from Death From Above 1979. They sounded like sludge to me, potentially due to a bad mix. Plus 2 piece bands are sort of boring to watch since they're too busy playing to PERFORM, but they did fit the bill as an opening act since very few people were at their seats yet anyways.
Honestly, the mix of Deftones/Sir Woman made this almost like 2 shows. A chunk of the crowd left after Deftones so there were 2 distinct vibes between the headliners. Personally, I would have been happy with even more Sir Woman and Deftones relegated to an opening role, but again that's just me.
Highly recommended - hopefully Sir Woman is back in the saddle for a 2nd 1/2 career run. Who would've imagined that 20 years ago! As Dave Grohl has proven, these days bands can hit their apex in their early-mid 40's.
